As a part of our continuing commitment in helping members of the military, AEG Resources proudly sponsored the Long Drive Competition for the first annual Corporal Seamus Davey Memorial Golf Tournament Monday, October 15, 2012.
The tournament was held in memorial of Seamus Davey who was best known for his big personality and mentorship of junior Marines in his team & platoon. Hosted by Global Blue DVBE at the Catta Verdera Country Club in Lincoln, CA, the tournament included a four man scramble, a BBQ dinner and awards reception with a bocce ball competition entertaining those who don’t golf.
Proceeds from the golf tournament will go to The Special Operations Warrior Foundation, to include support of their scholarship program which provides full college scholarships and counseling programs serving over 900 children of fallen special operations personnel. Additionally, proceeds aid in immediate financial assistance to severely wounded special operations personnel, encouraging family members to sit bedside during their recovery.
The cause was particularly special to AEG Resources, Account Manager, Chris Dushek, who served with Seamus in the 4th Force Reconnaissance Company. “I’m honored to have served with Seamus. He had true aptitude for mentorship, from coaching High School Lacrosse in his hometown of Lowville, NY, to looking after junior Marines. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country and fighting for his brothers in arms,” Chris Dushek said.
On October 21, 2005, Corporal Davey was mortally wounded in Iraq while conducting point raids in an area known to be a staging area for foreign fighters and insurgents. Upon entering a house, Seamus and his team were ambushed by four enemy gunmen. After being struck by multiple rounds and collapsing to the ground, he courageously continued engaging the enemy, allowing his team to withdraw and extract another wounded Marine. For his heroic achievement in connection with combat operations supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Seamus is survived and remembered daily by his family and fellow Marines.
The tournament is the first in a promising new tradition, which will bring together the community to remember, express gratitude and giveback in memorial of Corporal Seamus Davey & all those served our country. The wining team, composed of all Veterans, honorably donated the first place trophy to Derek Davey to honor his son’s courage service.
